Student Support Fund
Financial Support to AUTh Students
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki provides financial support to students in need, starting from the academic period 2005-2006. By a decision of the Senate Meeting number 2771/31-08-2005, the University has established the Student Support Fund in AUTh; the Fund aims at providing moral and material support to students, and covering extraordinary expenses that cannot be met by the students themselves.
Students’ extraordinary needs are approved by a competent committee and may include the following:
• Financial support to students suffering from serious diseases and undergoing treatment in hospital or recuperating from a disease;
• Financial allowance in case of extraordinary needs to students who get into serious financial difficulties, even temporarily, due to family problems that may put to risk the continuation of their studies;
• Financial allowance in case of part-time employment for the university.
Fund Resources and Management
The Fund resources may come from donations, legacies and bequests of the University, as well as subsidies from the Property Management Agency of the Aristotle University. Moreover, other sources of income may include cultural, social and other events of the university determined by a decision of the Senate or organized for the purpose. At a first phase, forty thousand euros will be distributed to students, coming from the AUTh Property Management Agency.
The Fund is managed by a seven-member committee, whose term of office lasts three years; the committee is presided by the AUTh Vice-Rector for academic affairs. The committee comprises five members of the Teaching and Research Stuff, and two students, one on a rotation basis for a yearly term (in accordance with the order of Schools and independent Departments as they are defined by the Student Union of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), and one from the School of the student applying for support, who is also the representative student of the particular School at the Senate. The decisions of the committee are issued as long as there is relevant majority, while voting is always open.
Supporting Documents
In order for the allowance to be provided, eligible students must submit an application which will state the reason they are asking for support. Together with the application, students must also submit, depending on each individual case, a hospital certificate, a doctor’s diagnosis, and a statement concerning the financial problems they may have. After the applications are examined by the competent committee, extra documents may be requested. The financial allowance will be given either in installments or as a lump sum, depending on the particularities of each case.
Applications and supporting documents are submitted to the AUTh Property Management Agency (outside the 1st floor of the Administration Building, AUTh).
Below you can read article 1 of the Student Fund Statutes referring to the objective of the Fund, as well as article 7 par. 2 of the AUTh Rules of Procedure for the Supporting Documents required in each case.
