The year 2016 has been proclaimed by UNESCO as “Aristotle Anniversary Year”, celebrating 2400 years since the birth of the great Macedonian philosopher and scientist, whose name our University holds. The proposal was submitted by the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, with the endorsement of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh).

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which celebrates this year 90 years from its establishment, is planning a series of scientific and cultural events in the city of Thessaloniki, as well as in ancient Stageira, the birthplace of Aristotle, and in ancient Mieza, the place where Aristotle taught Alexander the Great, to commemorate the “Aristotle Anniversary Year” with leading event the World Congress “Aristotle 2400 Years” .

To honor the universal and interdisciplinary character of Aristotle’s work, and to highlight the significant influence he has had on several diverse scientific fields, AUTh, the largest multithematic University of Southeastern Europe, has taken the initiative to register all events planned for the “Aristotle Anniversary Year” and to create a special calendar, in order to promote the relevant activities worldwide.

For this purpose, AUTh, informed accordingly the academic institutes and the scientific, cultural and other organizations and bodies, local and foreign, inviting them to organize events for the celebration of the “Aristotle Anniversary Year”. All the events will be presented in the calendar.

We invite you to browse the calendar which will be updated continuously throughout the year. Announcements of events organized for the “Aristotle Anniversary Year” can be sent via e-mail to the Public Relations Department (pr@auth.gr).
