According to Article 17 of Law 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 141/A/21-07-2022), a position of Executive Director is established in every Higher Education Institution (HEI), with a fixed term, reporting directly to the Board of Administration of the institution.

The Executive Director is selected following a public call, initiated under the responsibility of the Rector of the HEI. The term of office of the Executive Director runs in parallel with the term of the Board of Administration.

At the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Mr. Ioannis Salmatzidis has been appointed to the position of Executive Director, according to decision no. 81144/11-07-2024 of the Rector (Government Gazette 731/17-07-2024).

Responsibilities

The Executive Director exercises the responsibilities defined in Article 18 of Law 4957/2022.

Additionally, by Rector’s Decision no. 82565/09-07-2025 (Government Gazette 4166/31-07-2025), specific responsibilities of the Rector of AUTH have been delegated to the Executive Director, in accordance with the provisions of Articles 15 and 18 of the same law.

In line with the above, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall operational, administrative, and financial coordination of the University, ensuring the effective implementation of the decisions of its governing bodies and the efficient, consistent functioning of its administrative services.
