Equal Access Unit for people with disabilities and people with special educational needs

  • The Unit for Equal Access for Persons with Disabilities and Persons with Special Educational Needs of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was established in accordance with Article 209 of Law 4957/2022 and operates as an independent Department reporting directly to the Rector or the competent Vice-Rector.

    Mission

    The mission of the Unit is to ensure the full, equal, and meaningful participation of all members of the university community with disabilities or special educational needs in all educational, research, and administrative activities of the University.

    Main Responsibilities of the Unit:

    • Implementation of the Higher Education Institution’s Equal Access Plan.
    • Support for access to the educational process through accessible textbooks, educational materials, and interpretation services.
    • Support for alternative examination methods for students with disabilities or special educational needs, according to their abilities.
    • Provision of assistive information technologies and facilitation of electronic accessibility.
    • Support for beneficiaries’ participation in research, conferences, meetings, student assemblies, artistic and athletic activities.
    • Ensuring electronic communication for beneficiaries’ administrative matters.
    • Ensuring and facilitating physical accessibility, including transportation and escort services.
    • Provision of psycho-emotional support and guidance, in cooperation with the Center for Psychological and Counseling Support.
    • Collaboration with Academic Advisors to support students with disabilities and special needs.
    • Maintenance of statistical data related to disability and accessibility within the Institution.
    • Any other responsibility related to the Unit’s mission, as defined in the Institution’s Organizational Regulations.
    • Serving as a reference point for the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
