Founded pursuant to the royal decree no. 400/72, the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering first opened its doors in the academic year 1972-73. Initially, it was called School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, concerned with two broad areas of engineering and research. In the academic year 1976-77, the School was divided into two:
the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Electrical Engineering. Pursuant to presidential decree no. 266/93, the School of Electrical Engineering was renamed School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.The graduate studies programme of the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering has been in operation since 1993-94, leading to MA and PhD degrees.
Moreover, the School participates in a significant number of European and Greek research and education programmes. The School also participates in interdepartmental and inter-European graduate programmes.
