  • The Environment Office was mainly established in order to enhance the quality of life at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and reduce its negative environmental footprint.

    The Environment Office is supervised by the General Directorate of Technical Services and Computerization and is directly related to the Integrated Environmental Management (I.E.M.) Committee, which recommends actions related to the Integrated Environmental Management plan implemented by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and provides consultation as well as scientific support with regards to the actions taken by the Office.

    Key responsibilities of the Environment Office of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki include:

    Α. Organizing and coordinating the actions taken by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with regards to:

    • reusing waste and preventing waste production, as well as managing waste effectively,
    • enhancing energy saving and production,
    • promoting rational water management,
    • remodeling the university campus and applying green management practices,
    • fostering sustainable mobility,
    • producing and selling organic products,
    • promoting eco-development,
    • presenting and providing good practice guidance,
    • sensitizing citizens to environmental protection and urging members of the academic community to support the Integrated Environmental Management plan implemented by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,
    • ensuring that contractors abide by the procedures of the Integrated Environmental Management plan implemented by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

    Β. Monitoring and evaluating the actions with regards to the Integrated Environmental Management plan implemented by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, while getting information about relevant research, studies, services, products and funding.

    C. Supervising teams of workers which undertake tasks such as: preserving and cleaning green areas at the Aristotle University, maintaining and repairing farming and gardening machinery, buying fuel and oil lubricants, getting the necessary materials and spare parts, as well as ensuring that these are always available, etc.
