Interdisciplinary Agri-Food Center (KE-AGRO)

The Interdisciplinary Agri-Food Center (KEA-GRO) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) was established in 2018 to foster research, education, and innovation in the agri-food sector. It brings together numerous laboratories from the Departments of Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, and Forestry, reflecting a truly interdisciplinary approach.

KEA-GRO operates under the University Senate, guided by a seven-member Board of Directors, and collaborates with both internal structures and external partners. Its mission is to enhance the economic, social, and environmental impact of the agri-food chain—from sustainable field management and certified planting materials to the production of safe, high-quality agricultural products.

The Center supports the transition from traditional to smart agriculture and livestock farming by connecting academic research with agricultural practice. It provides scientific guidance, expertise, and promotes innovative approaches to production and processing, aligned with sustainable development and climate adaptation.

Key activities include:

  • Fundamental and applied research, education, and consulting on sustainable, low-input agricultural systems.
  • Training, technology transfer, and advisory services in the agri-food sector.
  • International collaboration and participation in global scientific networks to promote cross-border partnerships.
  • Networking AUTH members engaged in agri-food activities across all production stages, highlighting the University’s interdisciplinary expertise.
  • Linking AUTH researchers with national and international institutions in the agri-food field.

KEA-GRO serves as a hub for knowledge, innovation, and collaboration, advancing sustainable and competitive agri-food systems locally, nationally, and internationally.
