ECO-AUTh

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki became the first green university in Greece, implementing a well-organized plan of actions and initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability and environmentally friendly practices on campus.
The Aristotle University has committed itself to applying integrated environmental management practices, aiming at:

  • energy saving in public places
  • promoting and enhancing the use of renewable energy sources
  • reducing air pollution and gas emissions which cause climate change
  • providing sustainable mobility options and increasing accessibility
  • promoting organic farming practices and traditional farming methods
  • improving the quality of life of the members of the university community and visitors to the university.

 In order to achieve its goals, the Aristotle University has implemented an Integrated Environmental Management (IEM) plan, focusing on the following actions:

  1. Organization and management reforms
  2. Energy production and conservation
  3. Sustainable mobility, transport and parking management, accessibility
  4. Reuse, prevention of production of waste, and effective waste management
  5. Campus refurbishment and green management
  6. Dissemination of organic farming practices and serving of organic products in the dining halls of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
  7. Environmental information, sensitization and participation
